have you thought of looking at the 2.0t? Its better on fuel and more powerful. The 1.8 is a little underpowered so it has to work harder thus using more fuel.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Hi,

I have one of these, from what i can tell the 2.2 is a good engine , its smooth power delivery and quite revvy. Fuel consumption is in high 20's round town and upto 40mpg on a run.
The things to look out for is the high pressure fuel pump which costs over £315 and that is a problem for this car. Vauxhall have just recalled this model to do with the fuel pressure regulator so that may sort the problem out.
Im happy with mine, great to drive and good handling.

so there has been a recall for the fuel pressure regulator?

ive seen the watchdog video for this car about the fuel pump and regulator, but if the recall has been done on this car i should hopefully have no problems?

but obviously not the best on fuel but high 20s steady round town is about what id expect.

any other people have one of these?

Yes, covered 34K and averaged 36.1 MPG (with a 6-speed box, earlier ones had 5-speed).

I have had three replacement fuel regulators and two replacement fuel pumps. First lot under warranty, second lot was not, but after arguing with VX have managed to get a refund.

I like it, but would have preferred the 2.0t, but sadly it wasn't offered in the Elite spec when i went to buy. Acceleration from standing is good, going from 40-70 type speeds in a high gear is a little slower than i'd like (where the 2.0t would be better) but doing 40-70 in 3rd is certainly fast enough, and running 70-100 speeds in top gear (when you're revving a little higher) it fast enough.

    Ok

I have owned a 2008 vectra 2.2Direct for about 4 months now the car is a network Q car and when I test drove the vectra there was a snapping sound from the handbrake which the dealer said he would fix apparently the handbrake was repaced with a new one.

The 2.2Direct is very smooth to drive and is quick enough it never feels under powed but is no rocket ship but if you want that buy a vxr

The road tax is not to bad and I get around town 32-34 mpg and sometimes I can see 40 mgp on a run I use shell V-power

Before I bought the 2.2Direct I read all the horror storys but cars do go wrong and am still very happy with my first vectra

I'm in the process of px my 2.2 direct and I can honestly say that after nearly 10,000 miles, it hasn't suffered from any problems.

great car - mpg was anything from 30-34 using v power for me.

I hope my new vec is as reliable.
