    Default Wheels & vibration????????

Well today finally got round to swapping my 17"s to 19"s pics will follow. Definatley made a mistake with the local garage of choice (lack of knowledge) but hey, learn from mistakes and all that. Well its only 1/2 a mile journey home so can't give much detail speed humps too so no real test run, but seemed to get a grind/poss vibration though more grinding sound (under braking) any ideas no time for a proper test drive p-ing down and dark too so cant even look properly. Sounded like brake grind, but dismissed this as they were fine before and only a wheel change so brakes should of been untouched?? Any ideas or does is need a dry daylight run and some more info.

Whats the off set of your new wheels? Sounds as though they may be rubbing on the suspension struts and/or brake calipers

Well got 10 minutes today so managed a look at the car. Jacked up the 2 front wheels had a look over, all seemed fine tbh not a clue what i'm looking for lol, then again could be a noise travel from rears?? But gave them a good spin while in the air both seemed to spin freely and straight no rubbing etc. So going back to the brake route as thats when the noise is loudest, i think upon looking at paperwork from the last Vaux health check Sept 09 it said fronts were at 60% do you think they could be worn enough already to be rubbing. Did look at pads couldn't see the inner ones the outer looked aright though. Just scratching my head really, only changed the wheels the other day and can't say i heard a noise before with the 17's on. All tyres seem fine good grip all round and one of the fronts is brand new still wearing the sticker off. Think its a trip to local Vauxhall tomorrow to see good or bad, just don't wanna gamble with the brakes.

possibly additional wear on the hub bearings - owing to the extra weight

possibly tyre noise - try swapping front to rear to see if the noise moves

i take it the disc protectors not touching anywhere as well ????

just to throw some more ideas into the mix so to speak

Running out of time today for anything more now work again soon, as i say though when i jacked it up couldn't see any contact at all seemed to spin freely, so thinking the inner pad/hub/bearing possibly. I think given my knowledge lack of it, i'll leave the diagnosis to Vauxhall. Wallet at the ready no doubt. As if it is inner pads or hub i'm none the wiser as i can't change them myself so it will be a trip to a garage sooner or later. The joys of cars wouldn't be without it though and first possible incident in the first year of ownership . And if its brakes only to be expected so won't be disappointed then. Time for pics update to soon had a couple of little changes since i forst got it nothing major but looking better.

It's not a broken spring is? It could be rubbing on the tyre when the weight is on it. What kind of noise is it? A whining noise or a metal to metal noise?

Springs looked ok had to pop to the shop, less than half a mile round trip but would say it sounds metal to metal and under breaking or low speed couldn't really hear it at driving speed unless masked by road noise. So hopefully inner front pads and nothing worse. Any ideas on price from Vauxhall supply and fit as opposed to a local garage. So an update date on the title no vibration and the wheels mentioned only as when they were swapped over thats when i noticed the grind type noise end of braking very low speed.

Going by prices some fold have put on here anywhere between 150 and 300 quid!

You not confident to have a go yourself? The genuine VX disc and pad kit is about 70-80 quid
