Default Dashboard lights and clocks all switching off

My signum 1.9CDTI 120 keeps shutting the dashborad lights and clocks down leaving me with no rev counter, speedometer, fuel or temp guages. In most cases, switching off, removing the key and restarting has brought everything back to life. However, even that little trick has been unsuccessful in bringing the dashboard back to life this afternoon!

Has anyone else had this problem, or know of the route cause of the problem and the necessary resolve?

Im posting this from my phone at the moment mate so this will be swift. Its either going to be the CIM or ABS plug, first is a 400 quid dealer fix and second is free. Go into advanced search, put my name in and the words abs plug and you should find some more info with pics.

The ABS plug is only the first stop mate as you can check it for free, but from previous posters the some of the same code's get thrown up with the dodgy ABS plug and the CIM.

Pull the bit marked in red and the plug will lift off, then its just a case of giving the contacts a squirt of contact cleaner or wd40, but be sure to clean up any moisture.

Ok i will try that on monday when i return home as i am away for the weekend. I was told by a local mechanic that its a EGR valve does that ring any bells it dont make sense to me as the EGR is to do with the emission etc but am not a mechanic so i cant be to sure :S

No mate, all the EGR does is let some exhaust gasses back into the intake to re burn. It has nothing to do with the dash electrics.

Rushy is correct with his diagnosis...

ABS plug is the first port of call as it is simple and free to look at and clean if necessary, however this is usually for the older vehicles...say upto 2005

2nd, check fuses in the Fuse panel on passenger end of dash.
These are F1 - Infotainment and transport mode(?)
    F7 or F17, and F9 or F19 - BCM power feed
    F4 Accessory..not on all cars
    F10 CIM module power
    F12 BCM power overload fuse.

Finally have a check done on the CIM module...
If it is the CIM module, loss of instruments is often accompanied with a spurious loss of indicators, cruise control...
As said above, very expensive as replacement and programming into your car is the only proper fix.

I cleaned the ABS plug and its still bringing the same problem i will try the 2nd options as Robsey has said. If it is the CIM module where is it located and what is the costs of replacement so i can keep in mind.

Right, the CIM module is wrapped around the steering collumn, right up behind the steering wheel.
The ignition switch that you put your key into is part of the assembly that makes up the CIM module.

Replacement cost varies upon spec etc, and whether the fitter got it wet last night / or not..sorry sounds flippant but the dealer prices do vary.

    Cost of CIM = £180 to £350
Fitting and programming will bring full cost to between £300 and £500 !!

Ive tried both the options you advised me and still have the problem. the fuse panel is all working. So i guess its the CIM module, will the cost be between £300-£500 with parts and fitting?
