Induction kit or sports filter?

for those of you out there with 1.9 cdti 150, would you recommend an induction kit or just replace the air filter with a sports one? ive read that an induction kit can take power sometimes, rather than give more!

First off, an open cone kit is a big no no, it has to be closed. On their own, you won't get much power difference with the sports panel or induction kit, but with other mods the closed induction kit comes into its own, and the sound is amazing !!!

The cost can be different too, the panel is about £45, while a proper closed kit is bordering on £200 with made up ones being about £50-£80.

You say its a big no no but honestly, would anyone even notice 2 or 3 bhp loss or gain? Its like having a full or empty fuel tank. Lets be honest, cars have made 450+bhp with open filters.

You'll notice the difference with heat soak for sure, the car feels really held back, almost laggy - but like you say the sound can (and usually) makes up for it - the closed one's give best of both worlds but do cost.

In answer to the other question, they are the 18" 11 Spoke VX alloys.

Yeah you are right, I fitted an open one this morning just for the sound. I'll report back if I notice any heat soak

(Although I never have on 328's, rst's, Astra gte 8v's or calibra 2.0 16v's)

Did you buy yours brand new or did they come with the car?

I've just been having a discussion on this with my brother in law, I've always favoured K & N filters, nothing against Pipercross, just my preference.
I also go with replacement panel filters as they're not as obvious when you look under the bonnet. I tried that in conjunction with drilling inch big holes all over the intake side of the airbox and running a second cold air feed on a Celica, but if I do that I like to have a spare airbox so I can return it to standard if need be.
