    Default Failed CD70 firmware upgrade

    Hi,
I've just tried to upgrade the firmware on my CD70 unit (I spend part of my days upgrading firmware in servers at work, so this should be easy right?). Upgrade was via a workmate whose brother works in the motor trade, (first nice thing he's ever done for me or so I thought). Cut a long story short, I failed to check the condition of the CD (lightly scratched) and the upgrade failed to take. Now my CD70 has the firmware disk stuck inside and it refuses to eject it, the screen will not switch off (had to pull the fuse so I still had a battery to take me to work tomorrow) and when fuse is in, I've lost all radio/navi functionallity. I can't be the first one this has happened to. So short of taking it to the stealers, how can I recover the situation and get the stuck cd out and back to my original working firmware?

Getting disk out is the hard bit.

Firstly, I would press the eject button as the disk is spooling up..usually this has worked for me in the past for stuck CD's.
If this doesn't work, and I assume that you have already tried this then you may need to take head-unit out and partially dismantle it to get the disk out...don't be tempted to shove anything into the slot in a bid to lever the disk out...it will only cause more damage!!

Once it is out, check you haven't damaged the drive, then

Insert your original language disk, or the update /firmware disk that came with your car.

Should have got two disks with the car.
    1) Map Disk
    2) Update / Language disk

It is No2 that you need.

Once you put it in, it should do the rest itself
May ask one or two yes/no prompts but that's it
    Should take approx 15 mins.

No the update/ language disk has the firmware for the radio and allows you to select the language.

You need a new map disk, can be found on the bay of E

Disk prices vary, according to where you get them from.

I bought a 2007 firmware update disk for £19 and a similar aged map disk for a similar price from e-bay.

Sometimes you can haggle a lower buy it now price!!...typically you should offer £25 to £30.

I believe that actual firmware update disks are quite cheap from Vauxhall Dealers, it is just the mapdisks that are very expensive...£100 to £179 dependent on map coverage,

You will need firmware disk to sort update failure, and separate map disk for maps, obviously

I would recommend that if you are less than confident about your fixing skills, then yes send your unit to ChristianTM for repair...a valued and trusted member of the forum with lots of audio equipment knowledge.
