yellow car/spanner light

Hi all
Please can anyone help I drive a 2003 2.0 dti elegance vectra.
When i drive on motorways after around 20 or so miles the dreaded yellow car/spanner warning light Intermittently appears for few seconds then a few miles on it will reappears for a few more seconds or somtimes slightly longer. I have just had the car serviced and checked and no faults was found. i'm very concerned about this as i travel 40+ miles per day to and from work.I have noticed that the temp gauge barely registers at times ( i put it down to the cold weather that we've been having ) I'm wondering if this could cause this? also can i just buy a thermostat or do i have to buy the complete unit housing etc.

I would start with a new stats but it comes as an assembly,, if you're not losing power when the eml comes on, don't worry as it could just be minor stuff such as dirt in the maf etc..

Thanks for the response,I will get a new termostat thisn weekend,the car does go into limp mode when the light comes on but as soon as the light goes off it reverts back to normal.i have been reading posts on this sounds like it could be just about anything.i will check the easythings eg broken pipes etc this weekend.

Possibly clean the egr valve & boost sensor, this may clear it up, but if the car goes to limp mode it should light up on the obd system..

I will clean everything as best i can.hopfully this will cure it. i have owned the car for 5 years and i never really needed or had any work done other than services etc. i will have a good look at it this weekend and hopefully have a little bit of luck if not i will have to out it in the garage.
