how many miles has my air filter done? answers on a postcard please!

Hi All

Just about to go into a strop with Vauxhall and wanted your thoughts on my air filter. This was taken out of a 50k miles Vectra C 2.0dti. Can anyone who knows about these things let me know how many miles you think this air filter has done?

It was changed by Vauxhall (Apparently) 12k miles ago.

I have spoken to a few folk and they recon the filter has never been changed and it's certainly done more than 12k miles. What are your thoughts?

looks like its done a bit more than 12k mate. i can only see crap over half the filter wht dont u do the airbox mod while its off

I don't think its done 50K.... 12K could be about right dependant on conditions where you live....

You should have seen mine last Oct. when i bought the motor (car has full vx service history), the filter was 3 x worse than that & the air box was full of dust/ash which had set hard in the bottom... took some chiseling out & a new filter was under a tenner

I live in Glasgow and it has taken over a year to do the 12k miles as the car is only really driven short distances.

Part of the reason I suspect this filter has not been changed is the manufacturing date on the filter is 2003.

Do you really think my dealer would hold 6 year old filters? Its only a small dealer so wouldnt think they would hold that much stock. I am going to pop into the parts department today to check out a new filter to see what date is on it.

should have mentioned the car is a 2003 Vectra and the manufacturing date on the filter is 2003 also.

For 12k that look hellish dirty. I'd go with 50k.

I really can’t imagine a dealer (vx or motor factors) keeping a filter on the shelf from 2003; 2.0 dti's are hardly rare!
