Got a problem developed about a month ago on my 2002 (52plate) vectra 2.2 sri and hoping that somebody could shed some light onto what it is, so that i can rectify it b4 MOT time, as it's really bugging me.
When i start my car in the morning, as soon as it fires up i am getting a ticking noise coming from the front end for about a minute and then the sound fades and finally stops, and it does this every morning. I recently had my car in for a new stainless backbox, so i took the opportunity to get under the car and see what was what.
I was initially told that the joint in the pipe (just after the flexy hose, going backward) was blowing. So while up on the ramps they sealed it and i thought that would be it, problem solved. But no, although that blowing joint is now ok, i still get that noise every morning. I've spoken to a mate of mine who works at local tyre company and he said his mums vectra did the same, and that he thinks that it might have something to do with the exhaust manifold (maybe leaking where the manifold meets the engine block as the noise stops when the car warms up *heat expansion?*). in which case a trip to the garage is probably on the cards.......also thought i'd mention that i get a faint smell of exhaust fumes through the heater vents in the car as well.
Have any of you guys had the same problem, or what might be causing it? cos it just seems like one thing after another recently and i don't want this car to end up a money pit like previous motors......any help would be most appreciated. Thanx.
