is the cooling system pressurizing,if so you may have a failed head gasket.if not you may have an oil cooler failure,,as the oil pressure is higher than coolant pressure the oil will enter the cooling system

Didn't notice any pressure when I opened the tank, just a quiet hiss.

Is there any water dropplets on the oil dip stick. From the sound of it the head gasket has gone. Also is there an excesive amount of "steam" coming out of the exhaust.

for head gasket look for white smoke from exhaust, increase in oil level, increase in pressure in cooling system, loss of power, engine suddenly turning over slowly then quickly when trying to start like flat battery, would drain and flush cooling system out first before tackling head gasket, may not cure it but best to start with cheaper options first.

The oil is fine and there is no excessive white smoke. It starts ok and goes well. It's a manual so the only oil cooler it's got is the engine oil cooler.
Will make the dealer flush the cooling system, as there is also a grinding noise coming from the belt area and I suspect a faulty water pump.
