    Default Auto box screwed ?

I've got a 2.2 vectra elite auto, to be honest the auto box has been a pain since i bought it, its had three speed sensors (2 input and 1 output) in the past 5 months, last week i was pulling into the driveway and no drive at all in any gear, got out and noticed a sort of plastic burning smell along with a sort of buzzing noise form the box.

The garage i bought it from (in sept) changed the input and output sensors a week after i bought it, i also made them aware of the coolant issue so they said they checked and g/box fluid/expansion tank looked fine so that wasnt the issue. Now i have a sneeking suspicion that they may have bought the car cheap and just changed the fluid and sold it on (to me!) , obvioulsy trying to get any money back now would be a complete waste of time so looks like i'll need a new box or scrap the car !

Ive found this company 'the automatic gearbox company' based in Derby who will complete the job all in for £1974 with a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty, does that price seem reasonable?

    cheers

Sounds like you have the same issues i had with mine. New sensors, duff changes then a total loss of drive.

Cost of rebuild with new torque converter etc including new rad was £2275 incl VAT. If yours is the AF33 there are no 'new' gearboxes about, not even from Vauxhall so it took 9 weeks in total!

However mine was covered under warranty

Vehicle : Vectra C Estate Automatic

    Trim : Elegance

    Engine : Z19DTH

    Year : 2005

Some early automatic Vectras had huge problem with the water cooler, as the water was going into the gearbox. This is the official bulletin:

    Vectra C 2002 To 2004, Signum 2003 To 2004 - Engine Type: Z22 (SE - Vectra, YH - Signum), Z32SE, Y22DTR
AF23/33 Transmission - No Driving Torque Because Of Cooling Water In Transmission

    Option: AF23/33 Transmission

In isolated cases the customer complains of a loss of drive and the following symptoms may be diagnosed:

    - Failure codes P0700, P0715 or P0720 set
    - Slight loss of cooling water
    - Sediment in coolant expansion tank

This is caused by improper function of the seal ring at the oil cooler connection, which can cause the penetration of a small quantity of cooling fluid into the transmission oil.

An improved oil cooler / radiator has been introduced in production as of the following VINs:

    Russelsheim - W0L0ZCF3541042598
    Ellesmere Port - W0L0ZCF6848035197

In case of customer complaint, rework vehicles as described in Customer Satisfaction Program 06-R-016 (Vectra-C, Signum - Radiator) and Special Policy Program 06-P-017 (Vectra-C, Signum - Transmission Ventilation Hose).

Additionally it is essential to perform the following action:
    - Clean oil cooler hoses by compressed air
    - Flush oil cooler with approximately 200 ml ATF
    - Coolant to be checked (e.g. ATF in coolant expansion tank) and to be replaced if necessary

Note: Please remove TSB 05-FR-27 from your records as it is no longer valid
