    Default Another MOT post

Had mine done today passed with three advisory's

Temporary fuel cap (green and black twist-tight one, although it doesn't twist anymore, so the guy treated it as a push temp one, rather then fail me)

One bulb, checked all before I left but nevermind

    and wait for it....

booster seat fitted so unable to check seatbelt condition o/s/r, apparently this is a newish rule, due to booster seats not being fixed to the chair the tester cannot say the belt is safe as the seat it not fixed, so to save the tester being sued it the seat slips in a crash the belt isn't tested and an advisory given. If I had known I would have put the seat in the boot!

All in Very happy, seems I have been doing a good job at diy mechanics after all!

good news - i've had the seatbelt not tested message for 3 years

and i know someone with a squiffy seatbelt without any kids that pops a seat in just for the test

Suprised you got an advisory for a bulb failure, should be a instant fail.

think it depends on how mean the tester is, the bulb was replaced for free by the tester but he told me he had done it, I do have a red sheet so maybe thats for the bulb he changed.

He (the tester) has PRS'd it. So he has tested the vehicle and found a bulb out, the vehicle has been presented to the tester as a fail. He carries on with the rest of the test, and at the end of the test he has the discretion to rectify the fault only if the overall result will be a pass. So, for example if he had found on the roller brake test that a brake had little or no brake effort, then he wouldn't be able to fix the bulb fault, because the overall result would still be a fail. When he enters the results onto the VTS device, certain items have 3 choices as to what you can pick, these are FAIL, ADVISORY and PRS (Pass following Rectification at Station). The VTS will print out a red 'Refusal of a MOT pass certificate' because when the vehicle was presented it was a failure, but it will also print out a pass certificate because you have told the VTS that the fault has been rectified.
