    Arrow Airbox Mod!

    Hey all,

I have just carried out the airbox mod on my Z22SE with a standard airfilter..
I removed the bottom "half" cone and the top cone with a saw and its made a big difference to be honest.

Car felt real sluggish for the first 10 miles and didn't quite know what it was at as i was starting to panic, but after the ECU learnt the new setup (i think thats what was going on) it started to really pull alot harder and a little more aggressively/sporty.

    Great Mod!

Thinking of drilling a few holes?
    Good/bad?

I just want a bit more noise now on the sporty side rather than "bbbaawww, booorr" chavy side

Need that Pre-Cat removed, silly local garage telling me it will affect emissions and might no pass the next test lol.

    Vehicle : Vectra

Bad idea... i drilled the wing side only, on my astra and it made it worse so had to buy a new air box...

Plus i'm sure i've read something about the Z22SE needing the pressure build up in the box thats why it has a longer air feed from the grill?!?

Good show, I did the airbox mod on my 1.8 SRi, makes a real difference! I wouln't go drilling any holes though mate, All that's gonna do is suck in warmer air from the engine bay. I fitted a K&N filter as well, which I thoroughly reccommend! Get em off of eBay for about £35.

Might have to get a K&N yeah.
Swaying me from the idea of drilling holes, just came to mind because i know people who said it was a thing to do with Nova airbox mods lol.

Yeah the Z22SE has a longer air intake pipe, was thinking of fitting a GSI/VXR one.
Both trumpet crappppy waste of spaces are gone in the box though, well worth it!

I switched the air intake from the longer to the VXR one, I was looking at fuel consumption mainly and it's been pretty cold up here over the last couple of months, so it's adversley affected mpg and I've not been able to get a proper reading, the shorter air intake has however ironed out some of the judder you get at lower revs and has made it a bit more responsive, so I do reccommend!

Na its all positive thinkin mate if it made that much dif vauxhall would have concidered it as a better option?????

Yeah, that's all there is to it! There's a 'How 2' tutorial on this forum. You'll need a T20 Torx screwdriver to undo the screws on the airbox, then use a spanner to loosen the Jubilee Clip and remove the pipe from the top of the airbox to get access to it. Pull the funnel thingy out from underneath the filter and fire in your K&N filter at the same time! lol You know you want to!!

I do too, did the airbox mod and it's not faster, just feels more lively and perkier at the lower end of the rev range...definate difference!
