Default Signum Elite. Too many lights on?

I've now had my 2006 Signum (elite, 3.0 diesel auto) for about a month and have worked out most of it. But I'm puzzled by two strange lighting "features".

When I first unlock the car, the rear licence plate lights come on and the two lights inside the boot both come on. They all stay on for as long as the car is running.

At the end of the journey I switch off the engine and all these lights are still on. When I then lock the car the two licence plate lights go off immediately but the two lights inside the boot will stay on for approx 5 minutes then go out.

I've been right through this site to see if anyone else has had anything similar, but I cant find anything.

None of this is causing a problem (i.e. no apparent battery drain) but I cant get my head around why this is happening.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Licence plate lights are supposed to come on as you've described. I can't remember if ths lights in my boot come on as well though.

Licence plates come on whilst the boot is unlocked.

Interior lights come on when the doors are opened and for about 20 seconds after that, until they fade down.
Or they fade out when you start the ignition.
The only way the interior lights should stay on for five minutes, is if you have pressed the "Dome light on button", so that you can turn the interior lights on for five minutes.
After that the can bus turns them off to save you from flattening your battery.
Maybe you dome light is switched on.

    Thanks for your help.

Just to be clear, its not the lights in the passenger compartment that stay on (they fade out exactly as you describe) - its the two lights inside the boot space that are on the whole time the car is running.

Open the boot and press the light switch button and see if it goes off then. If not the switch is faulty.

saw a post on this a while back where it was suggested the two wires to the boot light needed swapping round and this would solve the problem..

Alot of dealers disconnect the boot lights to leave the tailgate open when on the forecourt, to prevent flattening the battery.

Yes, as above... remove the block connector from the light and spin it around so its connected the other way...
