    Default Vectras Going...

I've decided and I'm sad to say the vectras going after a year of ownership...

It's been a good car so far but I'm looking to trade in now for something a little sportier while I'm still young.

Just looking for opinions on CTR (new shape)/Astra VXR/Focus ST. I'll be test driving all of them in the near future but want to know what to look out for in all of these. Any opinions or recommendations are encouraged!

Civic type r. Saw the top gear review and Clarkson slated it but the reliability of the civic attracts me as a longer term investment...

not a fan of the civic, although the type r is quick.
I would have thought the focus st reliable being the volvo motor.
Take a drive in a veccy vxr? Don't know your budget.

It's a hard choice you have there, i would drive quite a few before making my mind up.

Unsure of final budget at the moment as I'm still doing a few sums but probably around 12-13k. Looking at 07-57 plates for that.

    Just found this....

They're the nippiest out of the lot but apparently aren't too much fun to drive.

That's a shame your budget isn't a little higher, as the Honda CRZ is out later this year...

If you go for a Type R then don't go for the new shape, as they're less powerful and give the driver less feel.

Yes the Focus ST is a good car, and as stated has the Volvo motor in it... sticking with Volvo how about the C30 as they do both a 2ltr and 2.5ltr Diesel Sport and also a 2.0ltr Petrol Sport?

Thought about the Toyota Corolla VVTL-i T Sport?

Would you get an R32 for that money?

    Seat Leon FR?

Cheers for the input Rocco! I've never really considered a Corolla, they always seemed a bit bland to me but the T-Sport looks like a good option!

It's a tough one, there's so many great cars in that group. The ONLY thing that's putting me off the VXR is vauxhall's reliability. I'm on my second one and neither have been brilliant. I'm looking to buy low millage as I'm after a car to last which is why I don't mind the CTR's unconvincing performance for that money. The more I think about it, the more an ST-2 seems like a pretty good investment too! This is going to be tricky.

You'll be pushed to find an older shape Type R with low mileage, and although you'll get great reliability from one, it'll be tough getting one that hasn't been used in anger alot...

    How about an S3?

S3s are way out of my budget it would seem but good suggestion.

For some reason I can pick up a relatively new Type R for around 13k, the older shape ones are usually higher millage and, as you said, been thrashed within an inch of their life. I'll have to take a few out for a spin.
