    Talking 2.2DTi - Cold start fail at -1C

    Mum wanted me to start her car up and let it run for a bit. Well, here's the result of bad glow plugs coupled with a near-dead battery.

    Had it on the Mrs' 2.2DTi. Took alot of cranking over with the gas pedal to the floor to get it going.

    Just changed the oil and filters, but it still needs a new thermostat and glowplugs lol

    Careful when removing the glow plugs,they are known to snap at the hex part and then they are nearly impossible to remove without damaging the threads.
    I've heard people mention,soaking the glow plugs in alloy wheel cleaner the night before,to help break down the seal that has been made between the alloy head and the steel glow plugs.
    I went to change them on a hot engine,as recommended by a vauxhall mechanic,one snapped in place,and i had to have the hole heli-coiled
    On the next dti i went to change the glow plugs on,i did them when the engine was cold,they all came out fine,i sprayed them with my cheaper version of wd40 before trying to undo them,i moved them just a fraction at a time,undoing them and doing them back up and kept spraying them before doing them back up each time.
