    Default 04 Vectra 1.8 Economy

    Hi All,

First post here, just picked up an 04 plate 1.8 LS at the weekend, with 70k on the clock.

Just wondering about economy/petrol gauge, I filled it up when it was bought and it's now done 100 miles and the gauge is showing 5/8 of a tank remaining. Is this normal or does it sound like something is up? How many miles should I expect from a tank? I'm guessing upto around 400 from economy figures and tank size. Most cars I've driven the gauge will decline slowly for the first half of the tank, then more quickly, is the Vectra just the other way around?

    Cheers

    Rich

I never trust the guages, on any of mine, best way to do it is top up & see how much you have used then compare it to the miles you've done.

It totally depends on how you drive it.

When mine is running right (long story and getting fed up with it now) I normally return about 40mpg. But I do mostly motorway for about 140 miles a day. I have had it as high as 44.5 mpg when driving like miss daisy.

Fuel economy is really down to how you drive, and what sort of duty cycle you do

Well, it's the Mrs car, and she won't take it above 3k rev's so if I'm getting low economy I doubt it's driving style. I'm just used to doing 80 miles in my Honda before it even comes down to reach the full level!

If you are looking at the fuel consumpion how are other items that could affect this, such as: is the air filter clean, when were the spark plugs last changed, has the air filter box had the mod carried out, have you run a bottle of injector cleaner through the tank to ensure that the injectors are working as should be, how are your tyre pressures? My 1.8 can do up to over 400 on a tank (motorway with cruise control on) but put it into heavy traffic and that figure drops right down. I think my average is about 37/40 mpg but I live in a rural area.

my guage is very consistant, if I brim it, the first mark down takes aprox 55 miles, then its aprox 40 to 45 per mark, and thats a mix of driving, 320 to 340 when it hits the red mark, but it only takes 40 ltrs to fill it up, so aprox 37.5 MPG, overall. on a long M-Way trip close on 500 miles, (over night) bang on 70 mph 43.6 mpg ,
