    Default 2.8 V6 - reading the dipstick

I tried to check my oil at the weekend but the dipstick looks nothing like any of the ones illustrated in the manual... and there are no obvious min/max marks on it.

There is a very small thatched area, then above that a kink in the metal, then a couple of inches or so up, another kink.

    Anyone got any idea?

Thanks for the reply. Will get a pic tomorrow.

I dunno if the little thatched area could be the min/max as it's WAY over that (by a long way).

the hatched area is the min and max so if your oil is way over the top of the hatched area i would remove some asap

Either got one of those devices that garages use to suck the oil out from the top, or drain some out by removing the sum plug.

Are you checking the oil when the engine is hot and then shut down for 5 minutes. This is when you take the reading.
