Thread: Egr / swirl valve headache!!

    Default Egr / swirl valve headache!!



    Can someone help with this, have had all the usual probs as listed below;

    poor power under 2500 rpm

    no spanner light

    swirl valve arm attached

    lumpy tickover until i rev it a bit.

    cleaned EGR valve and cleared 2 EGR holes in inlet manifold, boost sensor.

    Power restored for about 2 days then back to no power. I have checked the valve and sensor and all is clear, checked the swirl valve arm and that is still on although very loose and i have noticed that when the engine is running the fourth swirl valve top is slightly moving within the arm cup.


    back to square one help.

    did you completly take the plunger out of the egr or just clean the bit you can see?

    I only cleaned the inside bit first time and it was still the same, took it apart and knocked the plunger out then cleaned it thoughly and its now spot on.

    the plunger has a tendency to corrode this was the problem i had, fitted a new unit and all is well again

    when i cleaned the egr the plunger ( the bit that is inside the valve? ) moved freely by thumb pressure and the solinoid was free moving.

    You said that the swirl valve rod is (on) but have you looked to see if it rotates from the 2pm to the 10pm possion whislt you rev the engine?

    It might be on, but if it does not move, the valves within your manifold MIGHT be stuck - possible fault???????????????

    yes the arm and the valves move and when you rev the engine they move slightly between the engine on and engine off position. while on tick over the first 3 valve top discs are still but the 4th disc is moving slightly side to side by the vibration, do you think that the bearing on that swirl has failed?

    Yeah but the difference is Night and Day

    Typically you get away with it but you have claimed there is a loss of power at is noticeble.

    but that sounds like your actuator has packed up,

    as you mentioned above, new manifold.....................
