Default signum 2.0t compared to Octavia VRS

just trying to make up my mind between a Signum 2.0turbo Design and a Skoda Octavia VRS Estate. Both can be remapped to around 210 bhp.

anyone care to comment who has driven both.

what is the handling like of the 2.0T Design? without any suspension mods.

the motoring press seem to slate the Signum for handling but none seem to have reviewed the Design Model with sports chassis.

The Signum is a better equipped car than the Octavia but the impression I get is that the Octavia is a better handling car (brakes and cornering)?

    Ant diff in prices Henry?

unfortunatley I'm old enough to remember the Skoda 120 etc.....fabricated from pre-rusted tin foil (shudder), but I'm sure the Octavia is a nice car.

i've got a standard 2.0T design signum star silver 53 plate. wot a car !!!!!!!!!!!
for a big car,it handles like a dream. speed is fantastic, it keeps accelerating even in 6th gear. it is good for vauxhall quoted figures 137mph. a friend of mine has a n octavia vrs saloon, but wishes he had looked at a signum first. unlucky !!!!!!!!!!!!
a remap could be on the cards though !

Bought from auction a 53plate the Skoda is probably £500-£750 less then the 2.0t Design.

The Skoda Octavia may sound naff but it's not a bad car. The Interior is a bit basic but the vrs part leather interior is OK, pictures here

    http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/ca...erior%20detail

In standard form the estate will push on to 143mph and 0-62 is 7.7sec. It is the choice of many police forces both marked and unmarked cars. It is easily remaped to 210-215bhp as it uses the VAG 1.8 turbo engine as in the AudioTT and other VAG cars.

Finding it hard to decide. Its for our Family Car. The Signum has many nice saftey features as standard and lots of room in the back or boot with rear seats forward. I want a car thats nice to drive both on motorway and twisty roads.

shillbag, I must have been writing my post the same time as you.

thats interesting, so the Design handling is good then.

has your friend driven your car, or have you driven their VRS? if so what did they/you think of the difference?

Hmm the vRS is such a nice car but the insurance group is very high which was a factor in me not getting one. Unsure of the Signums insurance group though...

To be frank, i think the Octavia is a bit boy racer when compared with an understated Signum but test drive them back to back and satisfy your mind. You'll probably lose sleep deciding between the two!

So you want some advice from members of a Vectra C / Signum Owners Club on whether they think you should get an Octavia or a Signum -

    Let me think .. .. .. .. Signum anyday!

    Signum in my opinion.

I used to have a Skoda Octavia W Reg 1.8T Elegance. Had it chipped to around 200bhp ish and it flew. Set of 17's on it, Dampers and shocks and it was fantastic whilst my car was off the road. Bought it for £4k in 2002 with 70k on it, sold it with all mods on 6 months later for £6k and 110k on it

Octavia was a great car, but the Signum is more modern More toys and more comfort.
