    i've a manual mate !!

you're saying the auto aint got a good rep ?? maual gearboxes are falling by the coach load !! but thats vx in general . not just GSI's ,

Have never driven an auto GSI , but the delivery of the manual is quite good ...... 40 in 1st .... 70 in second ....... cruise at 70mp/h at 2500 rpm 100mp/h is 3500 rpm (near as dam it ) red line 6800rpm , but that should be the same as the auto's

    Phil,

By saying auto's haven't got a good rep i mean that the oil coolers are paper thin and seem to fail ,early resulting in milkshake for tranny fluid..

Still, 2 years warranty to go...

I don't think so, It seems the bit that fails is the gearbox exchanger, not the radiator end. It uses the engine cooling water to cool the fluid.
VX just change the cooler and fluid.. Known fault on this box apparrently.

BTW, when Mrs Gsi and myself were out cruising the blacktop yesterday we paid attention to what the speedo/tacho were doing and 70mph with cruise was only 2000rpm... perhaps 5th in auto is a 'longer gear'?

The same applied for your higher speed figure... 3250rpm in top..This auto seems a very lazy beast..Until you hold it in any gear on the tiptronic, the she flys to the red line really eagerly...

And like you say.. These do it as standard

A little something is nagging in the back of my head thou that VX gave two different BHP outputs for the man and the auto??
