Default diesel noob needs advice no boost under 2k

Hi everyone, got my new car, the 2.2 sri & i love it. However it has some small issue's which i need guidance with.
1st 1 is there is no power below 2000 rpm, over 2000 rpm it goes ok but i thought it would be a little quicker than it actually is.
2nd problem is the age old mpg question, i'm no rally driver and the car is doing about 35-37 mpg on runs to and from work about a 10 mile round trip.
It takes it time warming up, this is with a new stat too, apart from a good service does this sound like the e.g.r i keep reading about on here.

    Thanks all.

the egr is normaly a diesel fault. the trouble with economey is 5 miles each way isnt realy that far and if the heater is being used on red hot it will strugle to get warm

Ok the heater side of things is understandable & short journeys, any idea's with the boosting issue, i should point out it did have new boost sensor from the stealers before i bought it. Oh by the way lol i should have said it is a diesel.

yes just relised it might be the egr a bit blocked but have a look at your vacume pipe and mostly th rubber joins as they split and cause alot of probs

That's quite good really, my previous Vectra B 2.0 used to do between 28 and 32 mpg
The Vectra C is slightly heavier with a larger footprint, so although fuel economy may be better, tyre and brake wear is going to be higher

right all of me vac pipes and elbows on the vac pipes are in tip top condition, all turbo boost hoses look to be fairly new.
I just whipped of the e.g.r valve and it looks like the inside of a sooty chimney, cant tell if its working or not though, could this be related to the less than average performance of my car if it was the e.g.r at fault?
