    Default Cleaning Stuff

Hi Guys I have a couple of questions on cleaning my car.
I like to spend 3 hrs max once every two weeks on cleaning my car.
I do not have a jet wash machine.

I have always used this method with past cars, take it down the shell garage car wash or to the polish hand wash guys to clean the big stuff off when I get it home I wax it with colour match to hide any small scratches.

Now I have a newer car I would like to improve on what I have been doing.
Is colour match any good ?
Can I use colour match first to hide small marks and then over wax with something else ? to make it really shine.
If I use wheel wax and tyre shine and give it a good waxing will a car wash in between take it all off ?
Is a wet look shiner then a dry wax ?
Does a wet look protect as much as a dry wax ?
What makes should I use ?

    Thanks Peeps

Hi john welcome to the world of detailing , the art of how to empty your pockets in one easy lesson.
there are literally hundreds of products you can use
    basics 1
use a cleaner wax for taking traffic film of the car this also removes oxidation from the paint

basics 2 a good quality polish to lift the paint work to make it shine

basics 3 a good quality wax for sealing in the shine from the polish

basics 4 a good sealent as a top coat finish

for item 1 i use meguiars cleaner wax
for item two in your case with a silver car i would use auto glym super resin polish
for item 3 collinite 915 along lasting hard wax that really lifts the paint work
for item 4 auto glym extra gloss protection

for doing your wheels use collinite 915 again and for tyres ,meguiars endurance tyre gel is really the only one worth considering.
This will give you a good working basis for car care
As for other products the are more does and dont,s than you can care to shake a stick at

    1 dont use sponges
2 use two buckets preferrable with grit guards
3 use a lambs wool wash mit
4 use a good quality shampoo conditioner for washing your car
5 dont go to your local road side car wash they use a clleaner product called tfr (traffic film remover ) which is basically an acid, and there are plenty of cases of this product ruining paint work.
this is only a quick guide john if you fancy a demo i would be happy to show you or if you have any more question,s ask away

Thanks Bob ,for coming to my aid yet again.
I think it will be a challenge for me to complete in 3 hrs.
I always wondered why car washes are not recommended.
Looks like a trip down to Halfords is in order again, and I think I might wait until good weather is a little more reliable or the whole exercise could be heart breaking.

After reading the above posts regarding tyre cleaning, i went on a hunt on the net for meguiars tyre gel.
Halfords want £8.99, ebay was similar about £7.99 delivered. Then came accross elkparts.com and £5.95 delivered.

Not sure if its a mistake but it says £6.95 but went through the process and bought 1. Billed only £5.95. Will wait to see if it arives.
