    Default Limp mode in idle

    Quick one for you guys..........

As i pull away from a stop in 1st gear, limp mode kicks in, if i quickly turn ignition off and on again car drives fine at fast speeds until i stop again. As soon as the car idles then i pull away, limp mode kicks in again.

    Any Ideas?

    Oh, and its intermittent.....

    Cheers

    Russ

Now you did really expect to get an answer at 10.45 did you russ, some of us need our beauty sleep.
Right what your car is suffering from is the classic vx failing known as limp mode , this can be caused by in the dti,s case anything from egr valve needing a clean similarly the boost sensor or holes in the large hoses between the engine and the turbo similarly check your vacuum hose connection,s for holes or signs of perishing . you can find how,2 on here for cleaning the egr and the boost sensor similarly there is thread,s showing you what to look for with the hoses , failing all of these ask if the is anyone near you with a code reader/tech 2 they can then see what fault codes are being produced and guide you accordingly

    found the culprit!!!

the electrical connector on the EGR wasnt 100% connected so the vibration must have been causing the intermittent fault.

when i pushed it in it made an audible click as the connection made properly.

Problem sorted. cheers bobssignum, i'd have never thought to even look at that jobby. Gonna pull it out and give it a clean this week though after seeing the pictures!

    Cheers again

Makes sense. I had something similar when I refitted the MAF sensor/pipe the wrong way round after doing the airbox mod on my CDTI 150. What a plonker I was.
