Default 'Twanging' noise from front right??

Recently I have been getting what I can only describe as a 'twanging' noise from the drivers side front wheel area. It seems to happen when I go over rough road/bumps etc then sometimes when i expect to hear it over a bump it doesn't do it! I have had a good look in the wheel area and there doesn't appear to be anything amiss. The spring looks/feels to be fine.
    Any ideas?
    It's a 54 plate 1.9 CDTi [150] Estate.

either the spring moving on its mounts -top mount bearing movement - or the spring has broken in its casing and you just cant see it yet

If it sounds like someone hitting the chassis with a small hammer, then that's usually the springs jumping. Do a search on here for "spring seat mod" or "spring mod". It involves buying some plastic sleeves from Vauxhall for a few pounds and wrapping them around the bottom few inches of the springs, to isolate them from the seat.
