    Default Blue Calipers Today

Seen as the weather has been dry I thought i'd paint my calipers blue. Turned out to be a nice day, not too cold.

Jacked up front onto axle stands and rear onto 2 surplus veccy jacks i've aqiured......

Started on the rears first, some wire brushing, a small screw driver and some brake/clutch cleaner.......

Then a 1st coat of Halfords Blue Caliper paint (£9.95 a tin). I've used this previously and it's not too thick, goes on nice and touch dry in 30-40 mins even on a cool day like today. Says to recoat within the hour but I found I got better results waiting 2 hours, but that may have been down to temp. (but i did use a 2kw elecric fan heater to help drying). Tin will easily do 2 coats on 4 calipers x 2 cars........

Then the fronts cleaned up after taking front disc of for better access......

    And painted......

    Refitted after 2 coats........

And whilst I was busy doing this the wife even found time to wash the wheels, dig out the Chemical Guys Wheel sealant and seal all 4 wheels and then dress all the tyres....what a gal.... not to mention looking after 2 young boys and making me drinks and dinner.......

And finally wheels re-fitted after a long day, but worth the effort......

Very happy with the results, just need to paint to front pad retaining bracket when I get some black paint.

Had em some years now, 2 ton (1 ton each). Think they were from Aldi. I've put some rubber belting on the tops to protect the underseal on the chassis too. There pretty basic and I only had a 1.2 Clio when I got them.

Spend time on the preperation, it will give you better results. need to give them a real good clean otherwise your paint will discolour with any dirt/grease or brake dust. I used a wire brush, small scraper or screw driver and some rags. I used a tin of halfords caliper paint, a 500ml tin of brake/clutch cleaner and a 1/2" paint brush and a steady hand.
