Default Cleaned EGR and boost sensor 2.2DTi

On the long list of things I'm planning on doing to the Vectra, I came to cleaning the EGR valve and boost sensor today.

I can't believe the amount of gunk I found!

The EGR valve was well and truly stuck in place, so I took the manifold that holds the boost sensor off to get a better grip and use a lever to persuade it off.

Whilst taking things to pieces I inspected the various vacuum pipes and noticed that the pipe that connects to the solenoid near the EGR valve had a hole in. Was an easy fix as I was able to cut the pipe shorter and refit. Does anyone have any ideas what the butterfly does that this solenoid operates and what problems the damaged pipe would cause?

Everything went back together well and the car runs fine. I can't notice any differences when driving either.

Here are a few pictures of the gunk. I didn't get any cleaned pictures as I was full of muck and didn't want to get it all over my phone, lol.

i tried this on my 120 bhp 1.9 in the dark i might add.. boost sensor was unbeliavable and the egr wasnt to bad but the solonoid was solidly closed.. anyway after reading a thread on here i followedg that from memory. bit of a chuck to get started after everything went back together but i flew out of the drive way unexpected i cant believe the differnce it has made especially in first gear..

Sounds promising. Mine started just as easy as it always has. No plumes of smoke out the back either.

I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't noticed any better performance.

One thing I have noticed, though, is that it used to idle a bit rougher on cold mornings. It wasn't as bad this morning. When I say rough idle, the revs weren't affected, it just seemed to vibrate a bit.
