Hi - the controls on the left hand side of my steering wheel (move cursor / change cd?) dont seem to work. Any pointers for trouble shooting ? Cheers

    Vehicle : Vectra C

    Trim : Energy

    Engine : Z19DTH

    Year : 2005

    Mileage : 131,000

    Default

Wiring fault on left switch unit...
There are three wires from each switch unit to the cimmodule connector

There will be a +12v, Control signal and ground wires from each switch unit.

These merge in the CIM module on a four pin connector..

It is my consideration that the wiring for the control signal has gone open circuit

If the +12v wire or the ground wire were at fault, then neither the left nor right switches would work or illuminate. This would also generate an open circuit fault to be logged on the CIM module.
If one switch unit goes open circuit, then the power is cut from the other switch unit.

Do you have rollers or buttons.

If you have rollers, then there is little to touch in the switch unit.
The three wires go into the PCB.
The wires then pass through two tiny SMD - semconductors, before passing onto the resister / switch contact arrays.
It is possible that one of these SMD's has gone pop for whatever reason.

Looks like a new switch from e-bay!!

Hi thanks for the reply. There is a roller and two buttons on each side like in these photos www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28528

Do you think the steering wheel will have to come off then or will I be able to get to the parts another way ?

    Cheers

There is a little torx screw at the back of each steering wheel spoke.
    About size T15 I think.

Unscrew this, and then pull the switch unit out towards you carefully...the switch unit has two tangs that poke into the rubber of the steering wheel spoke. The side nearest to the rim is exposed, but the side nearest the airbag is set just behind the edge of the air bag. So when you pull the switch unit out, you will need to tip it inward slightly to get around the edge of the airbag.

You will not need to remove the airbag or anything else.

Just turn your steering wheel, so that the left spoke is in front of your instrument cluster...this will give you more space to get your torx tool into the left spoke. Then proceed as described.

You will find a three wire connector going to a little plug next to the airbag.

Using a very small flat screwdriver, or something narrow, you will need to lift a tang on each side of the connector, to allow it to be released.

Then it is a matter of reversing this procedure to fit the replacement switch.

Rang Vauxhall and they are quoting £240 for a pair of switches - had a look on ebay and wasnt sure what to search for - there are plenty of steering wheels but cant find just the switch. Rang a few breakers and no luck - any ideas of where to get hold of one of these ?

Just look for the ones with the one roller and two buttons on each switch units.
Will suit Astra H, and Later Full Can Vectra-c and Signum (2005 onward).

If you see paddles on the side of the steering boss, or just 3 round buttons on each unit, then these are no use to you.

Vx or Ebay...but that price from Vx is stupidly high.
The scroller wheel and 2 button controls are much more sought after than the others, and so are not as commonly found, whereas all the others are easily found.

Here are the ones you want - don't worry about the surround colour...these can be easily unscrewed and swapeed for yours.
