Default Vectra VXR vrs Insignia 2.0 T ???

    Hi Guys,

long time since i have been on here but have a question.

My 05 plate 2.2direct petrol Vec SRi is ready to be replaced with something a bit newer.

I am quite tempted by a Insignia 2.0 ltr turbo Sri (nearly new) esp 4x4 version if i can afford one (as yes, i admit it, i have a caravan!!), but have been looking at a couple of late 58/09 Vec VXR's.

Cant decide between the two. A insignia would be a nice change, but the Vec appeals to my inner Chav!

    Anyone got any ideas??

Reliability has been an issue on my vec (owned since 6mnth old), but less so when i kicked dealers, Davidsons of Morpeth into touch! Were later Vecs better?

    Cheers.

I believe alot of 2.2's have been struck down with problems as opposed to many other engines. Well even my mechanic says the 2.2's are regualry in compared to tbe others.

hi mate - the older vectras seem to be more reliable as the commmon bugs have been ironed out - but the insignia' s seem to be suffering from some teething problems as some members on here have experienced
= if you want a 2.0 insignia then there going to be great and will be highly mappable so would put you close/into vxr country anyway with the added 4x4 bonus and the surprise you could give to other motors leaving the traffic lights

Engine wise it has been fine apart from crankshaft oil seal failing at about 40K (has 45K on now) which also caused the alternator belt to fail due to oil contamination.

    Other faults include -
    1)Drivers seat stitching
    2)Rear seat fabric stitching
    3)3 ECU's replaced under warrenty
4)handbrake realeasing (with me in car to vouch for it!) re-work done with no probs since
    5) outside temp gauge miles out
    6) Fuel gauge eratic
    7) rear calipers siezed (VX visual inspections for you!)
    8) air con leak
    9) fog light misted (VX would not replace under warrenty)
    10) oil / water contamination, but no signs of h-gasket failure?
    11) Heater vents, various grille pieces snapped
    12) Ski hatch refuses to open

Inspite of the above i still actually like car, and could quite fancy a VXR! but dont know whether to go for the more modern Insignia with a £5k premium on same reg car?

I have just bought an Insignia, and currently drive a 57 plate Signum. To be honest there is no comparison, the Insignia is a far superior car in every way.

The 2.0 T Insignia is a Gem and the 4x4 makes for a fantastic tow car. Check for towing on the Vectra VXR though, the early ones are not type approved for towing, niether is the Insignia VXR hatch/Saloon.

thanks Maveric, didnt realise that about type approval on early VXR's, something to bear in mind. I was working on the basis of just swaping my existing towbar if it goes straight on to the vxr. The money soon starts adding up on the insignia front, higher purchase price, towbar, roof rack, etc. Suppose its all down to money at the end of the day.

My worry is, once i have had a VXR for a couple of months it will feel the same as my present one, albeit faster, whereas the insignia will feel a whole new car. I had the same feeling back in the days of mk2 astras going from a sri to a gte.

Insignia should indeed be a superior car overall, given it's a much newer design and engineered many years after the Vectra/Signum. BUT...superior in EVERY way? You must be smoking funny stuff there fella. Howabout rear legroom? Or rear headroom?

Yeaj your right it should be better. I have sat in the back of my Insignia, and in the back of my brother hatch within a few hours of each other and there's nothing in it.

Leg room in the back of the Insignia is better. Not that I am bothered as I will always be in the front.

but yes, I stand by what I say, the Insignia is far better in every way.

    I would disagree a bit.

The Insignia is a "better" car in the sense of build/refinement, but the experience for rear seat passengers is worse because of that coupe-like roofline. Coupled with the high rear door sills and it feels more claustrophobic compared to the Vectra - children all across Europe are going to be chundering at regular intervals because they won't be able to see out.

The Insignia Tourer is much better proposition if you are a rear seat passenger.
