if its off dont worry too much it all depends on what position they are stuck in mine was off over 6months and i hardly noticed any difference at all there is a quick fix on the how 2 on here to fix it with tap washers but this all depends how long it lasts the only real way to fix it is to get your inlet manifold replaced which is 470quid plus at a dealer or if you a mechanically minded and quite good with cars you could do the work youself but its quite a job

and you cant clean them as such the only way to clean them would be to do the 10k boost clean on the how 2 on here thanks

Not too sure if it causes damage but many people have driven for a very long time, not knowing the bar has come off, like yourself and have continued to drive it!!

There is a thread here somewhere on how to fix it for literally a couple of pound. It may last a long time, or it might just fal off again. If you find this thread in question, then may I siggest araldyte glue. Its very strong !!

If it's broken, then you won't be getting the correct combustion in the cylinders. Depends which flap is stuck, and whether it's open/closed.

Ultimately, with the dirty combustion, your EGR valve will also get coked up prematurely, as may the other swirl valves/flaps, making matters worse.

Bad news is, the proper way to fix it is a new inlet manifold with associated control unit. Sorry.

There is a link on here somewhere about the Pieburg tumble flaps, or swirl valves to you and me.

Had mine done on warranty recently, not much help to you though. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Blame it on VX for a great design.

got the bar out. not v easy i must say. gonna go to b&q afer work to c if i can get thoose washers.
do the plastic inserts have to be in a certain position the seem to move around quite easy. also when the engine is running is number three suppose to spin around?
i cant quite see how it works does the swirl bar simply push into the holes?
