Default Oil Level Warning Light issue

Having had my oil level warning light come on intermittently a day or so prior to my 120K service I didn't take too much notice as it was going in anyway. However after getting the car back from the service [its now driving much better] I am still getting the oil level warning light come on when the car is fully warm. There is no problem with the oil level as the car has had a flush and refill as usual.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing it? Duff sender unit perhaps?

    Over to you gurus....

    Hi JonnyB

Yes it is the level light and not the pressure light. I had a feeling it would prolly be the sender as the level was ok. Only thing is where to find it? I have got a gut feeling that there might be a sensor in the sump for this which means dropping the sump cover off in which case it can wait until the next service!

The OLS on my 1.8 is mounted in the side of the sump on the front. Unclipping the wiring will remove the warning - if you are sure it is erroneous.

So there is no way of simply disconnecting it without removing the sump? I always hate having to remove sumps on cars, the oil dripping is a pain. I would have a look at the engine bottom end while I was there though, and check all the bolts are all tight.

PITA if you ask me. If it was my car, I would disconnect the sensor and check the oil more regularly. IMO it isn't worth the hassle and mess of removing the sump.
