    Default Are you a "Fad-der"

Are you a fad-der..... yes I made that word up but are you a flitter between fads??

I find myself flitting from one thing to another roughly every 4 to 6 months.

One minute I'll be in to ICE and installs, join all the forums, gain the knowledge, fit the stuff and suddenly another new shiney gadget will catch my eye........Oohhh an iPhone 3GS......join the forums, learn the tips and tricks then suddenly it's now Computer building...join the forums etc etc. Back to Vectras, buy the bits, join the........ back to ICE!!!

It's seems thats how I live, jumping from one fad to another, usually always linked (techy/gadgets), and always coming full circle round to the same things.

Perhaps it's an illness, keep flitting around like that!! I know people that are only in to fishing and have done it for 40 odd years, never venturing in to anything new.....lol

    Ya need a girlfriend buddy

Erm.... but no seriously, I don't do "fads", I think they generally come by suggestion from friends or TV advertising (product placement). My friends are boring sods, I never watch TV and often im put off things JUST because they're being forced down my neck at every turn.

A lot of the things that are big now, I did years ago..... For example: Online gaming has recently taken off, I was doing this 11 years ago, before most people had broadband and before this generations "annoying children shouting down the microphone" were even born.

When they make technology more "accessible" to "Joe Average", it usually takes off big time.... But i'll have been there 5 years ago building my own.
I had a HDD/CDRW multimedia player attached to my TV nearly 10 years ago, It was made from an old PC, resoldered and squashed down into a 2U enclosure. But they've only been mainstream for the last 5 years.

Satnav has gone big time recently, but I don't have one because I don't need one.

I would definately discribe myself as a 'Fad-der' as you put it.

It's a bit of a standing joke within the family, I put it down to having very little when I was younger, never had the money. Only cycle I had when I was a kid was one I bought myself for £1.... aaaahh
As I got older however, I'm forever buying things I will play with for a while, before moving onto the next fad or new gadget.

I've tried most things like cars, boat, planes, yes even had flying lessons and obtained a licence to fly daylight only. 2 boats, one almost 70k, and lost 17k on it. My golf is not so much a fad as a way of life, play about once a week usually with the 2 sons or old business friends.

Recently bought myself a Nikon D5000, had a interest in photography for many years, and in the past have spent a small fortune on camera's and Durst Lab equipment. I also tire of things quickly too, so a lot of stuff gets passed onto the sons, although they can be as bad as me, but the grandkids do quite well out of me, or it gets sold on.

Only last week I bought another laptop online, and I don't really need it...lol, just because it had a much better graphics card than my last one, I already have 2 laptops, and a Acer Netbook, besides my main computer... just stupid really. We even have 2 PS3's, I have one in my study, and the other is in the conservatory which the grandkids play on when they come, which is quite often. I've had numerous expensive hifi systems, but dont class those as fads, more a part of essential living, same as TV's etc.

I'm getting on in years, and having my own business for many years, which is still going strong with 19 employee's, but run by the sons these days means I can afford things I could never afford years ago.
(hope that does'nt sound boastful...not intended to be)

I simply like my toys or fads, my eldest son is probably much worse than me for wasting money on his toys.

One thing my wife and I do like to do is travel, so we tend to have quite a lot of holidays a year, and of course while on holiday if I see anything I fancy I usually end up buying it. (even if I don't really need it)

These people who win the lottery and say it will never change their lives are stupid, if I won the lottery my only concern would be 'can I live longer enough to spend it all'... hell I worry about that now! eheh.
Only thing in life that is 100% certain is that death is inevitable, and it's rather permanent, so enjoy life while you are able, because one day you wont be able to.
The sad part for most people is that by the time you manage to accrue any money you are often too old to enjoy it.
