Default question for the conversion guys

    Hi
im seriously thinking about taking on the conversion project over the summer and have a question about the facelift headlights.
i have a 54 plate GSI and know nothing about its lights apart from when i hit the switch they come on and when i turn the knob to raise or lower them they do it...

Can someone tell me if the xenon headlights work in the same way as my old ones? the ones ive been looking at are 07 and i think are of a vxr.
i like the look of the actual light with the black inside but not fussed on the xenon bulbs. can the xenons be removed and standard ones refitted?

what is the simplest way to do this conversion, one of the guys on here has his old motors still wired up to fool his car into thinking his old lights are still in.

what i want is possibly the vxr look headlight with standard bulbs fitted and my knob that raises and lowers my current lights to do the same in the new ones.
    is this possible??

    Thanks in advance
    Rob

    hi m8
you can change them but you will need to change the wiring for the lights and tech2,
it just easyer and a lot cheaper to buy some HIDs

    thanks
do you think its easier to just go for standard lights? maybe the sri ones as im guessing these will have a bit of a smoked tint to them.

is there a set that has normal bulbs fitted and does not require me to start wiring up old motors etc?

a kind of plug and play type of light if you get my drift?

I'll put my answer to our last question on here so as not to clog up the How Too.

The motors from which ever headlights you fit will not control from your car as the facelift motors are not compatible with a pre-facelift car. Even the motors on xenon's from the VXR will not work.

Basically there are no direct plug & play facelift headlights that you can use.

Originally I assumed that you had self leveling headlights (i.e pre-facelift xenon's), but if that's not the case and you hve a manual adjuster knob then you should revert back to the idea of getting SRi lights like I have in mine.

Either way you will not be able to control the height from inside the car, but yu will not get any errors from fitting any of the facelift lights if your ca doesn't have self leveling.

Just to clarify based on the above post.
Your best plug and play option in the event of not already having self leveling as standard is to fit any of the non xenon self leveling headlight units. Smoked Sri or chrome backed standard will do.

Both lights will be plug & play to light up with no errors, but you won't have manual adjusment from inside the car, although all lights have allen key holes for adjustment under the bonnet come MOT time.

The only exception to this rule is with prefacilft's that came with self leveling xenon's, in which case expect a big headache like with mine. Still sorted it though

Early GSi's came with the xenons as standadrd , but as you've a later one and have the manual adjustment knob you've only got the standard halogens. Easiest solution is to get a standard pair of facelift black headlights (loook exactly the same as the ones I linked to on eBay, but take halogen bulbs and not xenons) and fiddle the wiring to get them to work. You can then fit a set of HID's to them and you'll have the best of both worlds at a much cheaper price. Usually quite a few headlights on eBay, around 50 quid per side is the usual going rate...

    thanks guys, i understand

seen these ones, £230 for the pair, black ones (plus delivery i'm guessing) just a little dissapointed that the motors wont work. never mind.
