Default Oil consumption 2.0 dti or oil leak

Just a quick question on oil consumption, I'm having to top up with 1 litre every 3-4 months cars covered 122k, fully serviced @120k, is this normal or do i have a leak, going to take the engine under shield off this weekend to have a look for suspect leaks, are there any common leaks that I should look for.cheers

Injector seals, rocker cover gasket. Is your engine oily?

Not from looking at the top of the engine but the underside could be cleaner, haven't noticed any drips or spots of oil, just thought the bottom was dirty and grubby from 122k but need to have a better look, fuel filter wasn't oily on the last change so don't think its injector seals, although I haven't ruled them out as faulty, they will be a job for a sunny day, as its a pain to start when left up hill, on the flat or pointing down its fine for days, a little throttle on start up and its away.

Just read about rear sump/oil gasket big job but is there anywhere else it could leak from like oil coolers or oil pipes.

Faulty injector seals won't cause the fuel filter to be oily. They do however cause starting problems if the car's nose points up.
So you're saying the engine looks clean, from the side? Is the turbo in good condition?

My V6 CDTi is bone dry at 167k miles

How many miles in 3-4 months?, in my car that would be 10,000 miles so a litre would be acceptable. My fist Vec-C the 2.2 '03 plate used a litre every 3000 miles from new all the way to 122,000 when it was replaced

According to the dealers, there's no problem as long as your doing 1000 miles or more per litre...

My 1.9cdti didn't use oil either, just the 2.2 petrol but as you say it was within spec at a litre per 1000 miles. My mates 1.8 was using a litre a day at 130,000 miles, the leasing company took it off of him so they could sell it while it was still running

there must be a leak somewhere, as I don't cover many miles about 350-400 per month, its lost/used a litre since the end of November but having worked it out thats only 1200 miles...
it doesn't smoke at all so assuming turbo is ok, took the engine under tray off today and there is evidence of a leak, although it all looks very sticky and not fresh and drippy which I would expect a leak to be like,

I have a haynes so i think its time to get messy and clean it up to see if I can find the leak, any pointers to go after, oil pipes, oil cooler, common faults, any ideas...?

I know of a 3.0, well actually two but one's exploded lol, that had a huge oil leak near the crankshaft pully (spelling?). It was the crankshaft seal or something. One had a goo-ey deposit, not drippy and very sticky.

Not to rub salt it you wounds but my 2.2dti has used about half a litre of oil in 9k or so. Even although if I remove the air inlet pipe at the turbo there is a small line of oil in the bottom of the pipe. I think that is normal though
