I was only going to go for Sky to get the basic package but for what I'm looking at is £21 for the channals, £49 one off payment on the Sky box & £15 for the they top Broadband unimated download package for the Xbox Live. What do you think???

I'm use Sky myself, Internet package is £17 a month, and then we have the telephone and TV packages. We dont have a lot of options for the TV as we cannot get freeview where we live.

As far as the Internet goes, 99.99% of the time it works well with no problems, just lately I think it's slowed down a little, but if connected to a decent server download speed are usually upto 700kb mark, but for most downloads its usually down at 300 to 400kb. I dont download much these days so it's no big deal. Web browsing is generally acceptable, with the inevitable occasional slowdown in the early evening, but it's always usable, and I rarely get much noticable lag when gaming online.

Obviously, speed often depends how far from the exchange you are, wer'e out in the sticks, so we can't complain really.

Generally I've found it pretty reliable, about 2 or 3 times a year the email will go down for up to 12 hrs, but it's not happened for a long time now.

Overall I would say it's better than the BTInternet I used before even though BT of course still provides the backbone service.

Often when signing up, SKY may offer you the 1st 12months at a discounted rate of just a tenna if your a little canny on the phone, but after that it's back up to the full price of £17.

The weakness, unless Sky have changed it, is their wireless router box, it works well enough, but the wireless side does not have too much range. The router I have does not have a antenna at the back like most small routers have, the wire antenna is obviously inside, which is likely the cause of its poor range.
Our home is a fairly large bungalow, and I have to have my PS3 no farther away than the next room otherwise it struggles to get a decent connection. For me its' no problem, but for long ranges... say using a laptop in the garden might be a bit hit/miss affair. A lot depend where the wireless router is located, but for general use its okay. One could of course if you wanted a much longer wireless range add a second better wireless router though I've not needed to do that, though I have considered opening it up and bringing the antenna wire outside the case.

In conclusion, would I recommend Sky?, yes I probably would, I know from experience there are far worse providers out there.
In fact was'nt Sky not voted the best internet service for 2009, though whether I'd agree with that is debatable.

Edit: If you have cable in your home such as Virgin, then I would definately use that, though not necessarilly for the reasons of the Internet, there can be other reasons to go the Virgin direction, if you watch a lot of TV.
