    Default Been to MIRA today

Went to MIRA today in Nuneaton with Volvo

Got to test drive S60 T5, S40 T5, XC90 D5 and XC90 D5 in all host of terrains including wet porcelein tiles to test DTSC and car handling, wet weather and off road.

Top part was being taken for a drive around the track at full tilt by a Formula 1 driver in a Volvo V70 R car (300bhp stock) ... it was superb, with DTSC off.

Whilst we were there saw a disguised Honda civic and Land Rover bombing around the endurance track.

Interesting place with lots of new cars like Jag XJ and other models being tested and kept under wraps.

    Thanks Volvo.

Good up there isn't it, I've been round the banked oval with Patrick Watts, Peugeots BTCC driver at the time.
    Quality day out indeed.

It was superb ..... and very hot !!!

We didn't get to go on any of the really serious banked track, we were testing out and experiencing all the safety features of Volvo cars ... the type of tests you wouldn't want to perform in your own car.

I liked the one with the DTSC off driving over wet tiles and keeping control as well as flooring the accelerator and swerving to miss some cones

    Great stuff

I was a passenger in a Pug 306 GTi6, Peugeots flag ship hot hatch at the time, and the only reason Mr Watts dropped it out of 6th, and into 5th for the corners was to save the tyres !!!
It was quite capable of taking the bends flat out apparently !!!
Scared the **** out of me as it was, lol.

This is me, on there test track, playing with my own motor at the time, think I over cooked it a bit in the second pic, PMSL !!!

Sounds a like fun day out Denzo!! I'm not jealous in the slightest!

So how did you wangle that with Volvo then?

    Hi Duncan,

Sorry to hear about your accident yesterday

Volvo hold a couple of Freedom + Driving events - I managed to get on one, here are the details:

    THE LOWDOWN

Freedom Test Drive Plus is an action-packed half day at two exclusive UK proving grounds split into four main activities – each designed to put our flagship cars through some white-knuckle paces.

PROdrive – take a high speed ride with a professional racing driver in an awesome Volvo V70 R or S60 R – see what they can really do

Driving Dynamics – test the acceleration, speed and stopping distances of a Volvo in a straight sprint – not for the faint hearted!

Off-Road – experience the cutting edge Volvo AWD Haldex system in action driving around a demanding off-road course

Safety/Accident Avoidance – split friction braking, hands-free braking and obstacle avoidance – discover how Volvo’s DSTC and ABS systems could help save your life

    Cheers

I visit Milbrook several times a year (and I have my own driving permit with no restrictions) for driver training events. I do occasional work in my spare time for a driver development company...

Last one, I was with a group of owners whose cars included an AMV8 Vantange, Vanquish V12S and a SL55AMG.

High Speed bowl is ok, if a little boring on the 3rd lap.

Mile straight is great for testing 0 - 100 - 0, quick starts and quick stops.

    Full Alpine circuit is superb.

    Outer handling is a hoot.

Steering pad with the skid car is at times inducing

Previoulsy we have done a Noble owners day amongst others...

I find Mira a little dull...
