My M.O.T. is due in April and as it failed on the exhaust last year (managed to squeeze it through with a tiny bit of welding from a local guy who did it for a tenner for me) I KNOW it's going to fail on it again this year (along with the rear suspension).
As a result, despite being skinter than a really skint thing from skintville right now. Knowing I'm going to have to replace the entire exhaust basically anyway, I've decided that I should go the whole hog and get what I want on it (a dual system) instead of spending a fortune "making do" and not being happy with it. (same story for the suspension).
Obviously I need to do this on as tight a budget as possible and it needs to be done via a credit card (or paypal which can take it from the credit card). So I have a couple of technical questions about what I want to do and would also like any suggestions/thoughts about doing it.
I've read the howto for the cdti 1.9 diesel hatchback that's in the how to section. Problem is, mine's a 2.2, it's petrol and it's a saloon so that obviously leaves the question, will it fit?
Are the saloon's actually the same length chassis? Will the same exhaust fit either? I find it unlikely, but don't honestly know.
What I want to achieve is the "standard" 2.2 direct SRi look, two oval chromed pipes or something similar. I don't want anything huge but I do want to smarten it up.
I also know I need to swap the rear bumper out at some point for the SRi/VXR one, but cant afford that yet, so for now will just cut two ovals out of the bottom of the rear valance until I can.
I understand I need to buy both rear boxes from a 2.2 Direct, a "Y" piece (but the Irmscher one is stupid money) and I know I need to replace my centre box too as that's the main failure on the exhaust right now, can anyone help with good price suppliers for these? I tried STS, ATS and *spit* Kwik Fit last night who all told me they couldn't do it and it was probably dealer only parts. So my local dealer is looking it all up for me, (although he looked at me strangely when I explained what I wanted to do lol). I do generally get trade club prices at the dealer (depends who serves me) but would I still get the bits cheaper somewhere else.
Can anyone confirm EXACTLY what I'm going to need to do achieve this at all please? The best place to buy all the bits? and any other advise/tips for this conversion.
Oh and do the hangers for the drivers side rear box exist on cars that don't come with them standard or do I need to get something welded on?
Thanks guys, sorry to be a pain, I'll probably be posting a similar thread about suspension setups shortly.
