    Default gsi service costs?

Evening folks, probably the wrong section to post in but couldn't anywhere else! Just wanted to find out how much the average cost of a full service for 3.2 gsi? And what's included in a full service (plugs etc)?

I had VX service my car only once, whilst it was still under Network Q warranty. They left dodgy tyres on the front of the car and I was not overwhelmed by the whole experience. I usually use an independent garage that I have known and used for many years. The guy there is a VX nut!

Now, though, I am about to embark on servicing the car myself... It's about time!

Sorry I cannot be more specific about VX servicing and costs. Take a look at the Network Q website. I think it has some information about servicing schedules. Failing that, speak to your VX stealer.

    Good luck!

Phone around and get some quotes
For prices we need to know how old the car is, number of previous services, and current mileage

A full service starts from £150 plus VAT but could quite easily hit £1000 depending on requirement for spark plugs, filters, brake fluid, brakes, cambelt, etc

    What was "dodgy" about them
The report simply advises on minimum tread and condition, unlike MoT
Mine have also passed through a service but failed on MoT (even though in same condition)
It really shows the lack of attention to detail paid by many dealerships; parts off, new parts on, hmm seem to have a few bolts left over...

One had little enough tread depth to be illegal and the other one was close to the bone. I don't think it should have passed its MOT that way. Anyway, I complained and the dealership arranged with the dealership that I bought the car from for the supply and fitment of two new tyres, so I guess it ended well. Lucky I am the kinda guy that checks this kind of thing, though, eh?

    Thread hijacking, but still!

I always put my cars into MoT with the front tyres between 1.6 and 2.0mm
It simply comes up as an advisory
It's different with servicing as that will go on the service report sheet and it is simply a traffic light system, although the dealership should advise "front tyres are worn you need a new one, but most people say no thanks"

Equally, it can be useful to precheck your car before submitting it for a service
As I've mentioned before I started doing this after I fell out with Arnold Clark, but every since they have been more diligent
Equally, one of the mechanics noticed the dates I had put on some of the filters, "We don't actually replace that one at this service"
