Unhappy Gutted! - crashed my car tonight.

Can't believe it. Three months to the exact day since somebody ran into the back of me - and only six weeks since I got my car back - I ran into the back of somebody tonight.

I went out for a drive as it was such a nice evening and was coming back on a country road a few miles from home. Rounded a corner to be met by a dead still queue of traffic due to an accident further up the road. As I was braking I realised I wasn't going to stop in time. Sods law dictated at that time a vehicle was approaching on the opposite side of the road so I couldn't have just gone onto that side and then come to a stop. I've got no idea where he came from or why he was there, as there was no other traffic coming in that direction due to the road being blocked by the other accident further up. (I think he may have been in the queue and decided to turn around to find another route). A really nasty head-on accident as it happens involving a 4x4 and an Escort. Seems the driver of the Escort may have been over the limit.

Having little place to go, the inevitable happened and I hit the car in front - more of a heavy glancing blow with my front nearside on his rear offside. My airbag didn't go off.

    Camera phone pics......

The other wheel is straight so you can see what's happened to the nearside suspension!!

Of course, it couldn't be a normal/average/inexpensive car I hit - it had to be someone's complete pride and joy!.......

Damage to mine is obviously the bumper, wing, wheel and suspension. Side skirt and don't know what else behind that - I'll have a look tomorrow. The driveshaft popped out so the gearbox emptied it's contents. The Porsche also emptied some fluid of some sort being rear engined and the obvious panel, wheel and suspension damage. Possibly also gearbox fluid given that it's rear wheel drive - may have also popped out his driveshaft. Once again, I don't know what else as I wasn't going to stand by his car peering at all the damage.

Still feeling a bit numb (as in shocked) and very pi**ed off with myself. I can safely say that I somehow don't think I'm going to be at Billing next weekend. That's even more galling as I was really, really looking forward to it. Only option is to come up in my wife's Corsa.

The other pain in the ar*e thing is that I'm now carless. Wife is away at the moment for a few days until Wednesday so I need to sort out the hire car for Monday.

And to top it all off, I'm now getting a stiffness in the right side of my neck/shoulder - the opposite side to what I had from the other accident!

What's also galling is that I was about to start doing a BBQ and I thought "I'll just go for a spin as it's such a nice evening". Should've just started the BBQ!

Edit: The WPC that I was talking to said she'll be ringing me to come round and take a statement. I just hope they don't think there is grounds for an undue care and attention charge! I was breathalysed (first time for me!!) - which was zero as I hadn't had a drop all day. First time in my life I've driven into another car!!!

Probably not much consolation the way you're feeling right now, but at least the safety features of both cars seem to have done their stuff as you are still walking around - a stiff neck is better than a broken one!

Absolutely gutted for you mate. No good saying anything else because words won't make you feel better!

Try and get to Billing. At the very least it'll take your mind off it for a while! Really feel for you.

No one hurt I hope, cars can and will be repaired mate. Such a shame for it to happen but life's like that.

Don't let it get you down, get it repaired and move on.

Don't let it spoil your weekend at Billing, use the Wife's or the hire car.

No use saying what if or if only. Just be thankful both yourself and the other driver are walking around and relatively unhurt, shaken up perhaps but safe and sound.

Sorry to be blunt and to the point but I'm glad your'e ok and no one's hurt, everything else can be fixed

****ing hell m8, as above, dunno what else to say !!!
    Just gutted !!!

Don't let it put you of Billing though m8, just turn up anyway, it's not so much of a car show for us, as forum, as we are not "officially" displaying. So come up and take yer mind off things, Billing has always been more about the people than the cars.

P.S. Perhaps you can have the front lower lip colour coded now

Just had a thought, had the police, who I am assuming where attending the first accident at the time, put up sufficient warning signs or show sufficient presence/warning that the road ahead was blocked ???
