    Default Does anyone know??

If a 2005 Vectra 1.8 16v will be capable of pulling a trailer with a small car on it? I plan to use a Corsa B as a track car but need to know if the car will be able to pull the weight without any issues?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

A 1.8 manual has a kerb weight of just under 1.4 tonnes, so as long as Corsa on trailer doesn't exceed about 1.3 tonnes (basic rule - towing veh heavier than towed veh) and the trailer is balanced so as not to exceed the towing veh max rear axle load, then you should be ok. Personally, I'd prefer a more powerful towing veh though.

Also check your driving licence to see if you are permitted to tow and if there are any trailer weight restrictions - common on newer issued licences.

if 1986 is your year of birth you will have passed your test after 1997 so you will not have the entitlement B+E on you license (look on the bottom left of the card bit) so are limited to a trailer weighing no more than 750kg OR (and this is important) not to exceed 3500kg combination weight i.e. tow car + trailer + track car + everything else yourself and other passengers included tools parts etc so long as no design weights are exceeded

    If it is any help,

I once towed a 2 tonne Range Rover for about 3 miles with my lowly Cavalier 1.8 CFi 8v car.

It pulled very well indeed, much to the surprise of the Range Rover owner

I only did this as an emergency measure, but I am still using the car to this day with no ill effects to the clutch etc.

if i remember correctly the trailer has to have its own brakes if its more than 3/4 the weight of the towing vehicle as well.
