Hello all, sad day.
On Saturday, my 2005 1.9 CDTi 150 Veccy C started missing, emission control light came on and I lost turbo. Its been running a caterman box for about 2.5 years now and I've had no problems at all. The engine management light has been on maybe 3-4 times in the past month and I've lost turbo.... but that was when the engine was cold and I've hammered it ((. Stopping and restarting the engine and being more gentle fixed that. I know I know.... warning signs right there.
I did notice what I thought was a drop in performance a few weeks ago, but I put that down to the fact that I'd been over in France driving a brand new Insignia for a month.
I had no choice but to get it into the steelers to get it hooked up and diagnosed, with the caterman taken off obviously. Just spoke to the guy there....
Turbo is whistling "too much" and is imminent fail = £950
Fly wheel is knackered = £1500
Some contact sensors somewhere need cutting off and re-soldering = £150
So over £2500 to fix the first major probs they found. It also needs a full service.
I've just done a Glass's valuation....
- Trade-in - excellent: £3,151.00
- Trade-in - average: £2,810.00
- Trade-in - below average: £2,471.00
- Dealer Retail price £4,850.00
- Private Sale price: £4,051.00
I bought it for £8200 in July 07. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
So, what to do. I don't think it would be wise to put 2500+ into it. Also, my company car policy states that my car should never be older than 5 years anyway.
I could see if VX Sales will give me a good part ex against something, just waiting to hear back.
OR - do I get my local garage to goget it from the Steelers and get a 2nd opinion? A neighbour looked at it before I took it into the Steelers and he thought the whistling was a damaged intake pipe somewhere... it just sounded like it was sucking in somewhere at the front left of the engine.
