It might not be much help as mine is a petrol, but it is in a small aluminium can on the front of the engine, not a screw off type that was on my Vectra B, I dare say some one with a V6 deisel will correct me if I am wrong..

i can't remember whether i saw this ed, but i was looking for anything cylindrical of that size that could house the filter. i'll have to have another look tomorrow.

if someone could get a pic i'd be very grateful.

I know where it is on the 1.9 CDTI and you it's not a fun job. Mine is under the back of the engine; to gaing access you have to go up though the quick release panel under the oil sump. You'll find it very difficult to access without lifting the car and you will need alot of rags/paper towel cos you can't get a container in there to catch the oil.

I put two wheels up on a high curb and jacked up the other side, still didn't find it easy.

Of course your filter might not even be there. I presume you know what you are looking for?

This PDF should help you Harry. Looks like the reason you can't find it is because it's behind the lower engine compartment cover.
