    Default i thought the egr?

Ok well guys it appears my car bad luck comes in three's?
i went to go to my mates house to replace the rear shocks and control arms, and when i left the house i felt the car was.. differant.

then i relised, basically no power below 2k rpm.
Yes immediatley i checked on here and went thru threads and posts and i thought the boost sensor and egr valve.

so i got their and took the boost sensor out and gave it a clean, even though it wasnt coked up.

i then took the egr off and that was coked quit a bit, so i went to take the egr apart and relised i didnt have any torx or allen keys to get the screws out so i cleaned what i i could from the egr and put it back together.

But, you guessed it, no differance.

    im thinking either,
A: i do need to take the egr apart and make sure its no coked up inside or whatever
    or
    B: its something diff.

there is no engine light or engine codes, and no smoke comming out the back.

i was thinking about buying carb cleaner and spray that thru n see if that helps?
    any ideas?
    its the 150 cdti.

Defo a full clean of the egr is 1st port of call.

Also a quick visual check of the swirl bar wouldn't go a-miss.

I'm no expert by all means but I did this job on the weekend after having the same problems as you.

Follow the how 2 and make sure you open the solenoid and clean that. It's the only thing that will make a difference. If you want to test the actuating pin on the solenoid before opening it up, connect a 12v battery to the pin connectors in the plug, the pin should osculate, if it doesn't it 100% needs cleaning.

Here's my solenoid, you can see the problem.

    Good luck.

well last time i drilled a hole in the part within the how to, but i could no for the life of me get the solonoid out! i tried knocking it, banging it, hammering it everything so inside that part has never been cleaned.

think i'll try tackeling it next weekend, maybe the fact it doesnt give boost before 2krpm will prevent me flooring it and maybe save me some fuel!
thanks for the great info lads!
if any one is any good with regards to suspension/knocks etc please look at my other thread!
    thanks again

You've got to get a nail punch (or similar) into the hole, through the spring and on to the top of the cylindrical section. A good hammer blow with the face of the solenoid sitting on a vice will loose the innards.

The EGR regulates the Exhaust Gas entering the manifold at low rev ranges, between 1000 rpm to 2300 rpm, so yes, a sticky valve/solenoid can cause the lumpy idle and juddery start/stop.

I had all the symptoms you describe through this thread, I did the work on Sat and my car is running sweet again.
