Default Signum 3.0 CDTI buying advice

I've just driven a 3.0 diesel auto and it's made my mind up for me, I want one.

I'm going to start looking seriously for my first Signum now, an Elite preferably, but was wondering if anyone would mind advising me what to look out for? Any common problems to check for?

I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to cars, so need all the help I can get.

I've written a few reviews on what to look for on the Vectra 3.0 V6 CDTI, so search those "Y30DT" and my username

What type of car are you looking for; age, mileage, outlet, warranty?

The basic one is service history; check for at least 20K miles / 2 years, older cars will be on 30K miles / 2 years, and newer ones may be 10K miles / 1 year
When viewing check to see if the service indicator works (ECO Flex servicing), press the odometer reset and it will show the miles to next service (normally starts at 31000)

If there are receipts look for expensive repairs, such as clutch, SCV, solenoids, etc.
Apart from that, the usual VX issues apply

Pre Face lift Elites have more toys. Mine has electrically adjusted seats - the newer ones don't.

Not a bad car overall - isuzu engine.

    Absolutely love mine.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys. I'm after a pre-facelift, but not so bothered about the year - would like to stay within 80K miles and if possible within £5k, but can stretch slightly above that if it's the right car.
I realise they're rare so I'm going to have to take the other factors on their own merits, but I'm not in any big hurry so I'm going to make sure I've got a good one.

Thanks for the info on the service interval indicator by the way. Didn't know that existed and haven't found any guides on how to use the interface yet so will have to take some time to have a play with the system when I go and have a look.

And I'll do a search for your reviews - assuming I'll have access, I'm new here!

As for the car, good ones are like hens teeth
However haggle hard, as many people are put off by the high tax band, maintenance costs, and so on, so use these to your advantage
I managed to haggle a further £1000 off mine, as I argued that the dealership had had the car for at least four months due to the high tax band

When you inspect the car, don't worry too much about the tyres or brakes
You will go through these like hot dinners
You may get 20K miles out of tyres, by swapping them rear to front as they wear
Make sure the current tyres are not showing signs of uneven or patchy wear, but this can easily be fixed with a full four wheel alignment (using Hunters equipment), and that they are XL / reinforced (you may need to come back on the forum for the tyre pressures if the handbook is missing)
Front brake pads will last about 20K miles, front brake discs about 60K miles, ironically the parts are about the same price so many people replace the discs along with the pads at every second change
Original rear brakes don't wear well, typically lasting less than 30K miles, but the replacements should easily last to the same intervals as the fronts
Personally, when replacing brakes match intervals front and rear; front pads + rear pads, then front pads and discs + rear pads and discs, expensive but the difference in car performance is quite clear
You will also be able to feel when the front brake pads are at the end of their life, well before the brake pad sensor goes (which leaves you with just 1000 miles left on them!)

As for the service indicator, it's really easy to use
If the car is on ECO Flex servicing it will work, if it does not work then the car is on Standard servicing
To check, simply press the odometer, with the keys NOT in the ignition
