In that case and imo, a 3.2V6 petrol - gsi or elite, a 2.0t - SRi or Elite, a remapped 1.9 150 sri or elite. Look for ones with optional extras fitted such as sat nav, Climate control, heated seats/leather on the sri's and Gsi's.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

You want a nice 3.0cdti sri or elite if you go diesel... or late pre faclift gsi or elite, try and find one with as many extras as poss, xenons leather pack if its an sri, park asist and bluetooth.

Nothing wrong with v6 cdti, i used to own one, would never have a 1.9 over a 3.0. not much in them for performance difference but just smoother and power delivery is more linear non of this 1.9 flat below 1500 rpm then all of a sudden 150 bhp then change gear. Also 1.9 can be a bit unreliable at times and dont like tuning much as flywheels etc start to fall apart.
3.0 all the way for me.

    just don't remap it.

Just remembered, you can get a 2.8t elite and remap it to 300bhp too Also, the autos are faster when remapped than the manuals.

Hi Kirky & welcome. Like Alanv6 I'd also recommend the 3.0 V6 CDTi. Auto box is my flavour of choice. My opinion is slightly biased as I own one & love it. I have to say that before I bought the V6 lump I test drove a 1.9 CDTi 150 auto & found it hesitant on rapid pull-off & kickdown.

Are you a high mileage driver? Is mpg important? If "no" then go for the big petrol but if "yes" the 3.0 diesel wins out. Insurance aint bad either. It costs me no more than my old Vec-B 2.2 petrol used to & it's a darned sight quicker with better mpg too.
