    hi m8
    i have the same problem
its a small engine to be pulling all the weight around and crap around town.
only see any good mpg on long runs.
but the 1.8 are mostly a good realible engine

That is a bit poor I've put 20pounds in mine done 120miles still got a quater left but that motorway driving to Blackpool and back to Warrington I've not long done a service on the car I would check the air filter and the fuel filter or just change them only cost about 20 for them both and take about 20 mins to change

[I] make that about 28mgp? if this all running around town its about right.Mini is doing approx 33-35 with a mix of urban and dual carriageway.I have also found driving below 2500 rpn makes a big difference

I'm getting similair in my 2.2, petrols seem to be really crap in general for MPG, anything over a 1.8 lol, your car more because it's only a small engine pulling around the weight of the vec!

28mpg seems very low to me. If I am reserved I can get over 37mpg 40%town 60% A roads.
I can drive fairly aggressive and still get 35mpg from my 1.8 petrol sri 58 11,000 miles.
Maybe it needs a service/tune up.

i have a 2004 1.8 LS & get on average 400 miles to a full tank with a mix of driving, but long journeys, using cruise control, do increase the mpg significantly.

i read this a while ago, something to think about :-

    http://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/20...g-trip-length/

also, theres more advice here :-

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tra...fuel#efficient

and you can always find cheaper petrol here :-

    http://www.petrolprices.com/

    hope that helps.
