Default which would you pick guys?

Have a little dilema here. Looking to buy a Vectra estate as we need more space, but remain undecided on whether to stick with a diesel or not.

Stuck between the 1.9 cdti 150, and the 2.2i petrol and would prefer the automatic version.

Performance looks pretty similar between the two, and fuel economy figures don't look massively different so would like your thoughts to help make my mind up!

    Any preference?

I had 4 years with diesels. I loved the pulling power and the mpg but over time the noise just got on my nerves, the tractor tick over bugs me now, even when it is someone else's car.
I am sticking with petrol from now on so much more refined (maybe its my age)

I like petrol after having both, but I would buy diesel.

diesel would pull better, which would be better if you're fully loaded with stuff.

There is quite a difference in fuel economy. I have the CDTi, 99% m/way travelling, I can easily reach 600mpg.... Last tank was 620 again, taking it easy of course. Not taking it so easy i will reach at least 550. Its very tourquey too.

People will say dont get the 150 CDTi but I think its a great engine! lol

I think in the real world the 2.2, when coupled with an automatic transmission, will give fairly poor MPG. It's a trade-off between the difference in MPG of the two engines, and the likelihood of EGR and swirl valve problems on the 1.9

Petrol for me, nothing against diesels but had both and although the diesel would off course do more mpg the rattle and small rev range always annoy me, horses for courses really.

thanks for the replies........looks like it's going to be a split decision though!

How do these two estates stack up:

    '06 cdti sri 150 auto
'06 2.2 sri auto, 18" alloys, sat nav

150 CDTI for me, The only petrol motor I would buy now would be sports model like another Mitsi evo or scooby.
I drive either a 1.9cdti (remapped 150) veccy estate or a 1.9 cdti 120 auto zafira to spain 2 times a year and the noise is not an issue at all
