make sure you bring all the crap they say in the letter - had to make 2 trips in rush hour when I got my personalised plate, it was a proper ball ache.

have you paid for it and all and they've sent you the letter you've got to take to your local DVLA office, with your tax disc and everything? if so you should have a list of everything in it.

What I was missing was an MOT certificate I think.

Think you're meant to take MOT, V5, all the paperwork they send you and if you've got some plates pressed already, take those with you and you can sign that you've already done them and can put them straight on the motor, otherwise there's some sort of waiting period and I think you have to post something. Can't remember it all too well though as it was late summer last year I got the reg.

When i went in i didnt take my plates, they just gave me the new tax disk and said when you change the plates change the tax disk and ring your insurance company.

I changed mine over the next day but in theory i could have done it in the car park.

I think the waiting period is if you post the documents off or something

yes did mine two weeks ago, here's a note of caution. They'll ask if you already have your plates made, if you've done something on the internet and they aren't 100% legal get the form to permit you to have plates made.
I swapped mine the next day, I had 1 letter 1 inch spaced out at the end, everything else legal. Same day went through an ANPR, came back as 'no trace' as the database wasn't updated. With no Log Book (still waiting for that to come back) or Authority to get new plates made and 5 days t get fully legal plates made I had to make two trips to the DVLA office, one to motor factors to get plates made, one trip to get defect notice stamped by MoT garage and a trip to the post office! Its been knackering! And to top it off the Police said the log book should be back in two or three days, mine at two weeks suggests somethings been lost!

But if you take everything to the DVLA office, you should get a new tax disc, new MoT certificate. Also confused, the Police said there was no grace period, should have been changed in the DVLA car park, the DVLA office said swap them whenever you want and tell the insurance
