    Default Key fob issue

Hi , I need the help from you guys:
Basically, I bought a 2nd hand transponder (key-flip type) to replace my damaged one. With that I managed to get my hand on a blade which cut and seems fine, now to the techie bit. I’m looking to programme the key and have few questions :

Have an appointment with the dealer but was told that it going to be chargeable even if its didn’t work. So the question I have is there a risk to not being able to reprogramme a 2nd hand key, which was used for a different car, albeit the same model car.

Is there an alternative to going to the dealer in the London/North West area?

The car is vectra c 2006

If the key has been cleared (un-paired) from the previous vehicle then it should be fine. This assumes that it was sold in working condition.

If it hasn't been cleared, then it cannot be reprogrammed.
Well not easily, and most dealers won't waste much time trying.

Alternatively, see if any forum members in your area have Tech 2, Op-Com or Vaux Com...as they will be able to check the "status"of the key and in some cases program it for your car...assuming you have the car pass with the immobilizer code on it.and all other details, such as vin number etc....on full can vehicles (54 plate onward) this is also the audio pass number (4 digits).

Sorry about my resonse..it implied that on 54 plate vehicles, that the Audio pass number is the same as the VIN No. - This is not the case.

On 54 plate onward (Full Canbus with quadlock connectors) the Audio pass 4 digit number is the same as the Immobilizer Code.

On vehicles 52 plate to very early 54 plate (before october 2004) with half can-bus radios fitted with ISO connectors, the Immobilzer code is different from the Audio pass (radio and screen) code.

Hope that clarifies it for you....
