    Default Power Loss on 3.0 V6 CDTI

    Hi, I have the above in the SRI Esate varient, its done approx 40k now and have suddenly been experiancing a loss of power at random times.

    its always between 2,000 rpm and 3,000 rpm.... this is the scenario:

    low revs (any gear) floor it, accelerates fine, hit about 1500 revs and turbo spools up, get a quick bit of boost and engine dies (its lke someones yanking on the handbreak), makes a wierd noise like its trying to boost. eventually when it reaches 3,000 revs its like a rocket again turbo spooling up no problem, until I change gear or drop below 3,000 revs

    It will do this for a couple of days in a row then just kinda fix it self

    Its done it a couple of times now, and normally when im overtaking or really need the power

    Anyone else experiance this or have a soloution?

    The car is standard except for a courtenay filter and had its had its major service not long ago, no fault codes or smoke either.

    I've been experiencing similar acceleration issues with my prefacelift 3.0CDTI, but I've not yet come to the bottom of the problem. Recently bought a new MAF sensor and will get that fitted soon. I'll report back if that sorts the problem.

    Another Y30DT with failed SCV by the sounds of it
    Time to get your blankety blank cheque book out sadly

    Short term solution and symptom check is to fill one complete tank with "diesel fuel pump cleaner" (not fuel treatment)

    Eventually the problem will get worse as the SCV deteriorates and eventualy the EMS will realise something is going wrong and will kill the engine power completely (meaning you won't get more than 30mph)

    So you think I have SCV failure again?
    I think it's air related this time

    Hijacking this thread I'm sorry...

    Mine's low on power and I can feel the turbo going on-off-on-off-on. I have turned the air filter around (I don't have the airbox mod) and it made it a bit better.

    I had problems with my turbo going on n off, boost pressure was all over the place and had lots of black smoke from the exahaust, turned out to be a tiny split in the intercooler.

    There are two things that give this symptom away
    The sudden power loss at 2000rpm (just where the turbo should activate) and regaining power at 3000rpm
    Accompanied by hearing the turbo switching on and off continuously
    This is caused by the EMS not understanding the readings from the fuel pump (due to a blocked SVC) together with the revs
    It interprets this as low fuel requirement and so shuts the turbo off

    As the problem gets worse the band on lack of increases, could be as wide as 1500 to 4500rpm
    Eventually there is so little fuel getting through that the EMS just gets totally confused and puts the engine into safe mode, however you won't get more than 1500rpm as by then the SCV is completely blocked
