Default EGR Symptoms re-ocurring after new EGR fitted...

Just had a text from my mate who we fitted a new EGR valve to his CDTi 150 a couple of weekends ago - for the week after fitting it the car ran perfect, no lumpyness, power from anywhere in the range, the engine lost its loud clatter etc... but in the last few days he says its been getting worse and now is as it was before we changed the EGR.

Has anyone heard or had this before, what did you do to remedy, after ideas before we have another look.

BTW, the car has had a new inlet manifold recently and has the blue injector plugs already.

    Cheers in advance.

Apparently the reconditoned ones (ones that have been fixed with the help of the How2) actually work better.

Yeah, mines does and its reconditioned plus there is a 3mm hole for me to spray grease into - as it is corrosion/lack of lubrication of the solenoid that prevents the egr valve functioning properly.

No i have heard a few stories like the one you describe and the one in mines cost me £35 from someone who had a spare, but that is a bargain compared to a new one at £107+VAT.

I put a brand new one on mine and it's been fine ever since mate. I changed it back in June and then put the restrictor gaskets on in November. Car seems fine still can't wait to fit the other restrictor gasket to see if there is a difference

    New day bump....

Could it be that we didn't clean the opening on the inlet manifold much (to be honest we didn't do much with it)... could this cause this.

What else can cause these symptoms..? Air leak, MAF fault..?? etc.

Mate - if it helps after I had my inlet changed which included software and EGR - was fine then for about 1 month - then lumpy idle and very hesitant, fix; new Injectors which fixed the above.

Would be worth giving it a good clean out with brake cleaner and the inlet opening too..

Also - clean the boost sensor, another 5 min thing that can make all the difference..
